Biofilms are an accumulation of inorganic and organic materials that can attach to all surfaces. Bacteria, both pathogenic and non-pathogenic, are incorporated into a biofilm during a stepwise formation. With time and nutrients, a biofilm and the bacteria within the biofilm will grow and become strongly attached to the surfaces.
